Pain Management
Pain manifests in many ways—the constant
ache of arthritis (long-term, chronic pain), the shooting
spasms of a sprained ankle (short-term, acute pain),
the frequent discomfort of carpal tunnel (sporadic pain
from overuse). While some of the causes of today’s
discomforts may be modern, practitioners have treated
pain with acupuncture for centuries. These ancient medics
explained that the body has channels of energy, called
meridians, which run in regular patterns throughout the
body and over its surface. An obstruction in the movement
of these energy rivers is like a dam that backs up the
whole system. Acupuncture uses fine, precisely placed
needles to unblock the obstructions and to reestablish
regular flow through the meridians.
Today’s scientists recognize the
validity of acupuncture treatments. Numerous medical
studies have shown that acupuncture needles stimulate
the nervous system to release chemicals and/or hormones
that alleviate pain and influence the body’s own
internal regulating system. Acupuncture helps the injured
not just to feel better, but also to heal faster and
more completely.
At Altos Medical Acupuncture, Dr. Freda Dreher can help:
- Reduce or eliminate pain from carpal tunnel and
other overuse injuries
- Diminish and even resolve migraine and tension
headaches
- Alleviate back, neck, and shoulder pain
- Heal sprains and other acute injuries
- Curtail arthritis pain
- Address physical pain and discomfort that is related
to tension, stress, and emotional conditions
Following an initial consultation, Dr. Dreher creates a custom treatment plan tailored to the
individual and the symptoms. In general, chronic conditions
require a longer course of treatment, and acute conditions
may resolve in as few as two to four sessions.
